Nagarkot is a beautiful tourist destination which is only 32 kilometers far from Kathmandu at an altitude of 2200m. The sunrise and sunset on the Himalayas seen from this hill could be a life time memory for you. It is most popular hill-station of Kathmandu which provides panoramic view of the Himalayas ranging from Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchanjunga in the east including Mt. Everest. You can also enjoy the incredible view of Annapurna, Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shanker and Ganesh Himal.
We will hike from Nagarkot to Changunarayan which is the oldest pagoda style Hindu temple in Nepal. It will take about 4 hours to reach Changunarayan. It is an UNESCO world heritage site. After visiting the temple we drive back to Kathmandu.
Day 1: Drive to Sankhu and hike to Nagarkot
Early in the morning we drive from Kathmandu to Sankhu, one of the oldest Newari villages of Kathmandu valley. It is 1 hour drive. From here we hike to Nagarkot and it takes about 3.5 - 4 hours. In the evening we will watch sunset on the Himalaya from Nagarkot. Overnight in Nagarkot
Day 2: Trek to Changunarayan and drive to Kathmandu
Early in the morning we will enjoy sunrise view from the hill-station. If weather permits you can see Mt. Everest and many other Himalayan ranges. From Nagarkot, it is an easy gradual downhill and fairly level path to Changunarayan. After walking for 4 hours you reach Changunarayan, 5th century monument dedicated to Lord Shiva. Then we drive back to Kathmandu.
